SaiGAR 2008 – Group H, Round 3

Battle 72
Claire Stanfield (Baccano!) – 723 (87.4% of 827 votes)
Ryuuguu Rena (Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai) – 104

Well that’s interesting; I guess people really wanted to make sure Rena didn’t get into the quarterfinals… 87.4% might be the new winning-percentage record, too. Anyway, Round 3 is now over. The bracket has been updated to show the Quarterfinals, which will start in two days.

Oh wait.  He killed it.  See, I prewrote this entry just a half hour ago when the results were up and the Quarterfinals bracket was made, but CJ has since told me (and I see it now, too), that SaiGAR Guy has abandoned/suspended the tournament until further notice.  I guess all the proxy-voting drama got too big, and SaiGAR is now closed due to AIDS. Bleh.

On February 28 In the future at http://saigar08.michaeldodd.net/:

Battle 73
Jeremiah (Orange) Gottwald (Code Geass)
Hosaka (Minami-ke)

I wish I’d taken a screencapture of the rest of the bracket before the takedown. Oh well. …The voting graph link doesn’t work anymore, so I suppose all the files are gone from the server, too, for now. But I’ll leave it there just in case it comes back.

SaiGAR 2008 – Group G, Round 3

Battle 71
Medicine Seller (Mononoke) – 344 (66.5% of 517 votes)
Lelouche Lamperouge (Code Geass) – 173

SaiGAR continues its streak of surprises with the results of this match. x.x I’m sad to hear about all the unrest this tournament is now causing. I didn’t have any hand in it, I promise! =( But it’s not all over; there’s still a chance for it to end well, right? Can the ends justify the means in a contest like this? The voting graphs don’t appear to show any manipulation lately… (but that could be a result of “smarter” proxying I guess)

SaiGAR 2008 – Group F, Round 3

Battle 70
Jeremiah (Orange) Gottwald (Code Geass) – 387 (55.0% of 703 votes)
Simon (Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann) – 316

This just doesn’t feel right, or maybe my mind is now biased because of all the voting drama lately. I’m surprised Gurren Lagann isn’t producing more mid-tournament winners, because they surely swept most of Round 1, and I was complaining about it for the most part. And now, Lord Genome will be the only representative to go to the Quarterfinals. I guess I got what I wished for x.x, but I feel as if things hadn’t been fair — like winning first place in a race because all the cars in front of you collided and skidded off the road, not because you actually fought to get in front of them.

SaiGAR 2008 – Group E, Round 3

Battle 69
Kittan (Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann) – 265
Giovanni (Pokémon) – 365 (57.9% of 630 votes)

Giovanni emerges as the victor of this bout. Apparently lots of drama has been going on in places like 4chan and AnimeSuki. Perhaps all the supposed proxying has upset the tournament moderator, but stuff like that is inevitable isn’t it? I’m sure even Saimoe wasn’t run 100% cleanly. But I can see how a bunch of Anonymous arguing left and right and whining and complaining would make anybody (who’s doing all the real work) stressed and resentful. Hopefully this year’s contest will still finish with a proper winner.

SaiGAR 2008 – Group D, Round 3

Battle 68
Lord Genome (Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann) – 395 (53.0% of 745 votes)
Kamina (Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann) – 350

Oh my… And it looks like a fair vote, too, without any huge spikes in the graph. What does the world say about this?  In any case, up next we have Kittan and Giovanni; will Pokémon continue to powerhouse it through to the quarterfinals?

SaiGAR 2008 – Group C, Round 3

Battle 67
Maebara Keiichi (Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai) – 314
Michishio Nagasumi (Seto no Hanayome) – 325 (50.9% of 639 votes)

Keiichi, nooo! You got Hinamizawa’d. :( Oi, and in the very last hour, too! *sigh* Well tomorrow it’s a Gurren Lagann face-off between Lord Genome and Kamina. Sorry, fans, but only one has to advance; it would likely be Kamina.

Battle 66
Shark Fujishiro (Seto no Hanayome) – 372 (66.3% of 561 votes)
Kino (Kino’s Journey) – 189

Aw.. well that’s it for Kino. Shark moves on. Up next, I’m all for K1! Show them how well you can break the curse of Hinamizawa and just be so GAR in the presence of five mysterious girls.

SaiGAR 2008 – Group A, Round 3

Battle 65
Hosaka (Minami-ke) – 589 (51.2% of 1151 votes)
Itou Kaiji (Kaiji) – 562

Another come-from-behind victory with Hosaka taking Group A! Looks like the serious is back in SaiGAR; is it because it’s round 3? Or maybe the revotes from a few days ago got people back into it — that it’s not a competition you can just cheat on.

Anyway, we fans continue to get ‘kimochiwarui’ as Hosaka goes into the quarterfinals. In the next match, after Kino has proved herself twice in Round 2, will she clean up Group B?

SaiGAR 2008 – Battle 52 & 57 Revote

Battle 52 (Group B, Round 2b)
Alucard (Hellsing Ultimate) – 195
November 11 (Darker than BLACK) – 211
Kino (Kino’s Journey: The Beautiful World) – 263 (39.3% of 669 votes)

Battle 57 (Group E, Round 2a)
Kittan (Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann) – 302 (45.0% of 671 votes)
Lunar’s Papa (Seto no Hanayome) – 84
Jonathan Joestar (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Phantom Blood) – 285

Click on the winning percentages for new voting graphs (here are the old ones). Kino keeps her victory (where’d the Alucard fans go?), but Kittan becomes the new winner of his round after a neck-in-neck voting battle the whole day. And now, Round 2 is completely finished. No voting today, but polls should open up Sunday afternoon for the first bout of Round 3. Results will be up on Monday.

SaiGAR 2008 – Group H, Round 2b

Lloyd Irving (Tales of Symphonia) – 47
Ladd Russo (Baccano!) – 252
Ryuuguu Rena (Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai) – 271 (47.5% of 570 votes)

Rena omochikaeri’d them all! Ladd Russo had the lead for a while but Rena came from behind for the win.

Oh and something I didn’t notice until now: Battles 52 and 57 (Round B.2b and E.2a) are being replayed because of “irregularities in the results.” Well according to the voting graphs for the two contests, the winner did get a spike of votes in the last few hours or so. So I guess that’s the reasoning behind the re-battle. I’m not sure if voting has already ended, since the battles are labelled 2/15, or if the period is extended an extra day. But I’ll report the results as I discover them.

Battle 52 (Group B, Round 2b)
Alucard (Hellsing Ultimate)
November 11 (Darker than BLACK)
Kino (Kino’s Journey: The Beautiful World)

Battle 57 (Group E, Round 2a)
Kittan (Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann)
Lunar’s Papa (Seto no Hanayome)
Jonathan Joestar (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Phantom Blood)

EDIT: Saturday, February 16 is the remacth for battles 52 and 57. Same as always; voting goes until 6 pm EST. ~CJ

Other than that, we’re now through with Round 2! SaiGAR takes a two-day break before Round 3 voting starts.

On Monday, February 18, at http://saigar08.michaeldodd.net/:

Battle 65 (Group A, Round 3)
Hosaka (Minami-ke)
