Anime St. Louis is really the impulse convention of the year for me. I always decide to go at the absolute last-minute, and then somehow the arrangement just works. This year, I have Heidi to thank for providing the little convincing needed to go. Seriously, those puppy dog eyes are powerful stuff. I also need to thank Alisa for providing lodging during the convention so I could attend all three days instead of just one. Now, without further ado, the convention coverage!

Anime St. Louis 2010
It’s that special time of year again… 7 anime couples, 7 days, and over9000 things to squeal over. Just like last year, CJ-chan will start things off with one of her favoritest shounen couples ever~!
Soul/Maka is easily the most popular pairing in Soul Eater, but don’t write it off as fangirl trash. Soul’s not a Mary-Sue bishounen, and Maka’s not a wussy teenage pansy who can’t defend herself. It’s a pairing with chemistry that makes sense and doesn’t piss off male readers of the series – heck, some of them ship it even harder than the girls.

Confession time: I never even got around to watching the Soul Eater anime. (I have familiarized myself with the later plot points in the anime, though, for the sake of writing the post.) To be honest, I live for the monthly manga installments, but I regret not getting around to watching any of the anime before its license by Funimation. (Y’all better do a good job with those box sets, ya hear?!?)
But Soul Eater would be just another generic shounen series if it weren’t for its excellent characters and drama. Not only are the main characters, Soul and Maka, the coolest things since chocolate Pocky, but readers can actually care about the side characters too. Two such characters who need more screen time are the amiable yet violently determined Marie (also spelled Mary; seems to be no official spelling yet) and the bizarre Professor Franken Stein. They’re shipped fairly hard by the non-yaoitards, partly because they’re kinda-almost-canon, and partly because they just make sense.

Spring 2008 Anime Preview
Perhaps it’s a smidge early for such celebrations of Spring 08′ anime series. But who cares? ^_^
The following are major series that have been confirmed for Spring 08, some of which are starting in March. My comments are included. (I tried to keep my fangirling to a minimum.) Full list of series is here.
