Anime St. Louis is really the impulse convention of the year for me. I always decide to go at the absolute last-minute, and then somehow the arrangement just works. This year, I have Heidi to thank for providing the little convincing needed to go. Seriously, those puppy dog eyes are powerful stuff. I also need to thank Alisa for providing lodging during the convention so I could attend all three days instead of just one. Now, without further ado, the convention coverage!

Anime St. Louis 2010
According to ANN, Cartoon Network’s ‘Toonami’ block will reportedly cease to exist tonight after 11 years of existence. It was revealed at Anime Weekend Atlanta this morning that a special announcement regarding the cancellation will appear on CN during the 10:30-11 pm EST timeslot.
Insert big fanboy/fangirl “WHAAAAAAAAAAAT? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!” here.
Though Toonami’s only current Asian animation is Naruto fillers, it has been home to at least 30 anime series over the years, including Dragonball and Sailor Moon. (ANN’s article has the full list of series.) Heck, I remember a very old-skool CG version of Tom, Toonami’s old mascot, popping up during Sailor Moon commercial breaks when I was a kid. (Yes, I’m that old young.)
Nostalgia aside, though, Naruto‘s future is somewhat up in the air. While there are two episodes scheduled to air tonight, one of next week’s episodes has been replaced with Batman: Gotham Knight, and no further news has been released regarding Naruto‘s future times or episodes. It’s unlikely that CN will outright cancel the airings of Naruto, however, I see at least some filler removal in its future. Perhaps skipping ahead to Shippuuden, the ‘second season’ of sorts? Perhaps VIZ has some special plans for the uber-popular franchise’s adaptation.
Expect updates as AWA continues and New York Anime Fest rolls around next weekend.

surface’s New Naruto Ending
The new Naruto Shippuuden ending theme is by surface~! 8D It’s a pretty quiet piece, with piano in the background and stuff, but it’s already stuck in my head after hearing it once. Needless to say, I love it. (Though I am a little biased…)
Plus all the guys in formal clothes is kinda cool, ‘cept they already did that in the second ending theme… :P
Anyway, I’m totally looking forward to the full-size release. ^_^ surface fangirls, rejoice~!

I know Matsuricon’s not over yet (it ends tomorrow), but since I’ve already left, I figured I’d go ahead and report on at least the cosplay. Everything comes tomorrow since I’m not so tired.
Note to cosplayers: Welcome! Feel free to download your pic and use it for whatever. Hope you enjoy it! ^___^ Also, if you cosplayed at Matsuricon 2007 and you want your picture posted, you can send it to me! ^_^ Continue reading ‘Party on at Matsuricon! Cosplay pics’
As a rabid Code Geass fangirl, I am familiar with the second OP, ‘Kaidoku Funou’ by Jinn. I don’t really get, however, why so many fans hate it as a Code Geass OP. The song made it onto the Oricon top 10 chart, so it’s not like the song sucks. So why do anime fans bash this song so much?
I personally think it’s not as good of an OP as ‘Colors’ by FLOW, but it’s certainly not horrible! The lyrics and the edgy chorus fit the series reasonably well. Continue reading ‘Randomness of the Week: Quit hating on Kaidoku Funou’
‘kay, so I was at Kings Island (a local amusement park) today, and my sister and mom tried to drag me onto this spinny thrill ride with that bald Avatar dude on it. I have an ‘ethical’ issue (as my mom put it) with Avatar, because everyone thinks it’s anime and it’s NOT, and I’m mildly hacked off at Nickelodeon for not clarifying this. So I’m boycotting the ride. Dumb, right? ^_^
But as I was sulking/boycotting, I started wondering… why not a Naruto ride? It could be kinda like the Italian Job ride, with the sharp turns and police cars and stuff, only it’d be much nerdier cooler. And Naruto’s a little less popular than Avatar, but if they can have a Fullmetal Alchemist ride thing at Universal Studios in Japan, why not Naruto here?
Just a thought.
EDIT: Okay, after giving it some thought, I realized that
a) nothing in this world can bring sexy back like Face-off
b) the Naruto ride would probably end up being Kakashi-less, ne? I bet Sakura and Sasuke would be featured, but not Kakashi. :(
