Anime St. Louis 2010

Anime St. Louis is really the impulse convention of the year for me.  I always decide to go at the absolute last-minute, and then somehow the arrangement just works.  This year, I have Heidi to thank for providing the little convincing needed to go.  Seriously, those puppy dog eyes are powerful stuff.  I also need to thank Alisa for providing lodging during the convention so I could attend all three days instead of just one.  Now, without further ado, the convention coverage!

PAX East Day 2

Well, Penny Arcade kicked off their first PAX East here in Boston at the Hynes Convention Center, so I had to attend. I didn’t make it in time on Friday because I had to stay late for work, but today, Saturday, I spent the whole day there, from 10am to 10:30pm.

12th Day of Christmas: Way To *spoilerspoilerspoiler*, Sunrise

*THIS* IS NOT WHAT HAPPENS. ;~~~~;

A belated Merry Christmas to all! The previous 2 days I was a tad too busy doing homework partying to write about another anime moment, but if anyone’s still interested, I’ll rant about it today.

And it is a very important, spoilery, somewhat franchise-butchering moment indeed. Code Geass episode 25. Y’all probably know exactly what happens, but if not, then SPOILERS AHEAD.

The Spring Season Broke My Heart (alternate title: loli wants her Lulu/C.C.)

It’s rant time. (And yes, there are massive spoilers ahead, mainly for Macross Frontier, Toshokan Sensou and Code Geass.)

Spring 2008 Impressions

In order of what impressed me the most:

Code Geass R2 (seen 3 episodes)

LULU IN A PINK APRON /fangirl

WOW. As in, “WOW, the yaoi fangirls are probably crapping kittens right now because Lelouch and Suzaku are nowhere near each other!” The changes in circumstances this season makes for some interesting events, as do the new characters. Rolo/Roro/Lolo gave off an Alphonse-like air when he first appeared, which is why the end of episode 2 surprised me. I’m sticking with this one, period.

[English Dub] Code Geass 01

Ahhh, I haven’t rewatched episode 1 in a long time. It was refreshing, especially with the lovely dub. Bandai ALMOST gets full cookies, but the voices had a few weak spots and weird lines.

Good sushi: On adultswim.com, the opening theme was kept intact (though was it just me, or did the animation get changed a little?) The dub voices are, for the most part, well-picked, and even the ones that aren’t the best matches at least say their lines convincingly. I really like Lloyd and Kallen’s voices in particular, with C.C. getting an honorable mention. (Kate Higgins’ voice for her is close, but doesn’t carry quite the same charm as the original Japanese.) Suzaku’s lines are very well-delivered, evidence of Yuri Lowenthal’s expertise.

I have only watched two episodes from this spring season because school is eating my life. >__>;; Therefore, this post contains mini reviews of Code Geass R2 episode one and Bus Gamer episode 1. ‘Nuff said.

ANN: Bandai Pre-Licenses Code Geass R2

In a industry panel at Anime Boston, Bandai Entertainment (NOT Visual) has noted its pre-license of Code Geass R2 as well as the manga adaptations and novels. No announcement has been made regarding releases and such, partly because R2 hasn’t even aired in Japan yet.

As thrilled as I am that they licensed season 2, they’d better A) release the R1 discs fairly fast (preferably right after season 1′s release ends) and B) pronounce the freaking title correctly. If I’m not mistaken, the only other notable pre-licensing of a recent anime series was Eureka Seven, which Bandai was responsible for as well. That ended up taking a while to get released. I’m glad that Bandai’s taking steps like this; however, it’s gonna mess up my coverage of CG R2 when it starts airing this spring.

The manga licensing excites me, as Bandai normally does a great job with their manga releases. However, I’m not sure what they’re going to do with the novels. They currently do not have a light novel or other text-only imprint, so I guess they might sell that license off to Seven Seas or Tokyopop.

ANN: Code Geass starts on Adult Swim April 26th

 This is epic.

Incorrect pronunciation included.

“Bandai Entertainment Inc. announced today that the Sunrise anime series Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion (pronounced “gee-S”) will debut on Adult Swim April 26th at 1:30AM pacific.”

“Gee-S”? Do they mean “gee-ess” or “gee-uss?” If they mean “geese,” I will laugh really hard.

But any way you look at it, it’s still technically wrong. Continue reading ‘ANN: Code Geass starts on Adult Swim April 26th’

ANN: Bandai Launches Myspaces for Lelouch and Minoru

ANN has a press release from Bandai USA stating that promotional Myspace pages are now online for Code Geass and Lucky Star, two of their biggest upcoming releases. The pages as labeled as belonging to Code Geass‘s Lelouch Lampourage, the main character, and Lucky Star‘s Minoru Shiraishi.

I’m not exactly a Myspace addict, but I’m thrilled that Bandai USA decided to take this potentially disastrous promotional… leap. ^_^;; I mean, no offense to Bandai, but Myspace isn’t the most secure of systems; any error on the marketing department’s part could lead to the page being hacked and completely ruined ie pr0ned over and killed.

However, Bandai surely knows what they’re doing, and it’s worth whatever minor risks there are. I have a Myspace, and being able to fangirl over Lelouch’s page is completely awesome. It’s fun reading the other fans’ comments too, especially on Minoru’s page. :D The pages are very well designed, and they take advantage of every feature Myspace has to offer, including photo albums. This promotional thing may or may not lead to increased sales or whatever, but it sure as heck makes the fans happy.

Oh, and my little sister is a total Myspace nut; maybe I’ll go hack her account and add Lelouch and Minoru to her friends list, just to see her reaction… ^_____^
