As the blog software publishes this post, I am likely at Ohayocon, presenting one of our blogging panels. However, I realize that a lot (if not all) of our readers may not actually attend the convention. Therefore, I put this little post together to give you a little view into how I go about writing an episode post and to have a little metablogging fun.

Katanagatari – Episode 01
We’ve almost reached the end of the Winter season launches with the airing of Katanagatari. However, this is a nonstandard series. The plan is to be a sweeping epic series that is aired as one 45-minute episode every month for the rest of the year. I don’t have a lot of time before shipping out for Ohayocon, so let’s jump right into this.
Last week on Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu, the writers put the battle system on the bus to the middle of nowhere to focus more on the relationship aspects of the characters. We saw Yoshii, Himeji, and Minami’s love triangle develop, as well as the start of Yuuji’s relationship. This week continues building on the relationship triangle while returning to better comedic form.
Sora no Woto – Episode 04
Last week on Sora no Woto, Kanata fell ill with malaria, resulting in an experience that strengthened the relationship she has with Rio. We were introduced to the church, which Rio distrusts. The episode also confirmed that the mentor for the two girls was the same person. This week, the anime focuses a bit on fleshing out Noël, who has been in desperate need of the treatment since the start.
You guys know I pretty much hate shoujo. The genre’s various mechanisms and archetypes never really captured my attention as much as, say, a well-drawn fight scene in a shounen manga. (I’m a tomboy like that.) But several romance-laden shoujo titles have won my heart over the years, and fortunately, there’s now another one to add to that list. The adorable but realistic 7th Period is a Secret is a hidden gem of the shoujo world, and while it’s no masterpiece, it’s darn good for a three-chapter miniseries. Its art is better than most series of its genre as well, making it a real treat for aesthetic-minded readers.
Last time on Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu, Class F and Class A faced off in a battle. Despite how much they played up the debacle, in the end, you knew that our heroes would lose. If they managed to get to the top of the school in two episodes, what would we do for the next eleven? The ending left Yoshii and Yuuji set up on dates, which is where we join this episode.
Sora no Woto – Episode 03
Last time on Sora no Woto, we got an episode long introduction to Kureha, the obligatory tsundere for this series. A bit of time was also spent on the history of the fortress and its role as a school in the past. This week amazingly manages to slow the plot down to an almost complete stop, so let’s jump right in and get it over with.
We’re finally all set to do three panels at Ohayocon this year!
First off, we have our brand new Resonance: A Soul Eater Panel! Rakuen and CJ will be doing this panel on Friday, January 30 at 8 pm in “2nd floor D Panel room” (whatever that means.) We’ll be talking about the Soul Eater anime and manga for a full hour, so bring your weapons and your meisters (try not to get into any fights!) and we’ll just chat about everything that makes the series awesome.
Anime Blogging 101 is scheduled for 2 pm on Saturday in Panels 10, with the brand-new Anime Blogging 201 at 3 pm in the same room! Rakuen and CJ are doing 101, but Jenni’s dropping in for 201 to discuss some grammar stoof. (No, she won’t put you to sleep, I promise.) 101 will be more of a primer for people who don’t hang out in the blogosphere much, while 201 is for long-time lurkers (or graduates of 101!) who need to get to know the details. Both will be fun and informative, and yes, Rakuen will keep CJ from going off on any rabbit trails hey look my Death the Kid figurine is on its side when did that happen I bet it was aliens who did it…
Overall, Ohayocon 2010 is gonna ROCK!!! Major thanks to the staff for making everything work for us this year!
Gaming for Haiti
As some of you know, Haiti was rocked by a massive earthquake on Tuesday. The disaster has completely destabalized their infrastructure and left hundereds of thousands of people without a home. Tens of thousands have perished, with the death toll estimated to rise to at least 50000 people. Their way of life has ground to a halt. Already, organizations and governments around the world have sprung into action, donating time, resources, and money to aid in relief efforts.
Yesterday, a group of us over at TheSpeedGamers community started to work on a plan to help raise a little money of our own. For the next 48 hours, at the minimum, Gamers Gaming for Good will be running a marathon for donations to Haiti relief efforts. There is no set theme, we will have games played from a variety of series and genres. There will also be a commentators talking with a live chat that everyone is welcome to join.
We have a chance to come together as a group and do some real good for people who truly need the help. If you have time, please, come visit us for a bit. Donate if you can, and tell your friends. Every little bit helps.

Last week on Baka, we met our intrepid heroes of Class F, and then immediately launched into the first battle of the series against Class E. F prevailed, and then received a challenge from Class A. This week’s episode picks up from there.
