CANAAN episode 11+12

Dun dun dun, it’s the showdown between Alphard and Canaan.

Alphard makes me feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside~

Alphard makes me feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside~

I did get the fight I was hoping for, and it was as awesome as I was hoping. Alphard did end up losing a few points in my book. After engineering the whole thing, her ‘Oh I’m not good enough so I’m going to run away’ stunt didn’t impress much. What sort of true warrior pulls that crap? Well, I suppose one that wants to survive, but still.

Otherwise, the ending was a real disappointment. I wanted a happy lesbian ending with Maria and Canaan, not the whole, ‘we’re not equal and can’t be together’ idea. One word. Lame. We spent an entire series watching their relationship blossom just to get that? Asdfghjkl. It’s as if after they’ve done this farfetched story, they want to send a deep, serious, real to life message to the audience. With the way this series played out, it just didn’t work.

Despite Alphard’s stunt, she did still manage to stay very classy, and somehow, alive. I liked how it was obvious that her past and allowing hate to consume her shape her as a person. I’m not going to sit here and say CANAAN was one of the best series ever, but I think she was definitely one of my favorite villains ever, and these past couple episodes just solidified that for me.

I agree about the ending being disappointing. While I wasn’t expecting an all-happy lesbian ending, I was expecting them to at least meet each other after the climax. And whatever “deep, serious, real to life message” they might have been trying to convey fell flat due to the fact that Maria and Canaan’s relationship wasn’t laid out and developed very well. And the climax wasn’t so great either. The last part of episode 12 was great, but it was completely negated by how easily Yunyun saved Maria and how easily Canaan turned the battle around.

Can’t say I really liked Alphard much, though. She was pretty badass at times, but also a rather cliche and pathetic character.

How could you not see that kind of ending coming? think again, it was a Type-Moon story based series, just remember how all their pairings end up, Arcueid dies in Tsukihime, Saber goes back in time and dies in Fate/Stay Night, and it is quite possible that any other Type-Moon story based anime will have a downer ending.

Maybe because I’d never seen a Type-Moon story based anime before?

By the way, I’m in the middle of Fate/Stay Night. No thanks for the spoilers.

Yeah I just finished watching it and I was really disappointed… I was expecting the same thing, or at least Maria and Canaan meeting after the credits or something, but no. It was a great show, but the ending ruined it…
