7 Powerful Character Deaths: #1 Gurren Lagann

So after reading a disney verison of the most terrifying Disney character deaths(link right before cut), I was inspired to do an anime verison of what I personally consider the seven most powerful character deaths. This is going to be a seven week thing with a next one for each week, are not in any particular order. This is probably going to be missing some big ones, as I haven’t watched either Code Geass, or Full Metal Alchemist or a lot of things. But if anyone of the team feels like I’m missing something big, let me know.

For anyone keeping score, I will be catching on Shikabane Hime very soon.

Here in the original Disney article: http://www.cracked.com/article_16795_7-most-terrifying-disney-movie-deaths.html

Everything will be cut to prevent spoilers, and we’ll be starting off with Gurren Lagann.

Earl and Fairy impressions

I’ll admit it, I’m a complete sucker for a good fantasy story. But I will also admit that fantasy stories tend to be poorly executed in the anime genre–with exceptions. However, I’m glad to say that Earl and Fairy is a well-done fantasy tale.

[Impressions] Library War (Toshokan Sensou)

The book that started it all~!
This is probably the first series in a loooooong time to make me rewatch episodes less than 24 hours after initially viewing them. It’s that good.

And while I could go on and on and gripe about the shoujo-tastic ending, and how the series neeeeeeeded to be longer, and how some of this series is just so unrealistic… it’s the characters and their trials and their growth that made it awesome. The politics, the action the romantic drama, the character development, and the sheer slice-of-life moments all added up to make Library War the most lovable series I’ve seen in a long time (and a darn hard series to write a spoiler-free-ish review about.)

Because freedom of expression and having the right to read what you want is SRS BSNS.

This Entry Swings Concordant Angles As You Incline Your Head

A guest post from one of my good friends, Tzion. He contemplates hairstyles in anime while the rest of us in our local anime club are in the midst of discussion about other topics.

- – - -

Since we’ve had threads on bawdy subjects like pantsu and oppai, I think it’s time we talk about something way more sexy: hair.

I think hair is the most important physical attribute an anime character has. Usually, characters keep the same hair style throughout the show, and when they do cut their hair, it usually comes with a change of personality (like that bimbo chick in Eureka 7, and the other one in Bounen). Some common personality/hair trends would be

Straight – serious, stern, calm
Curly/wavy – excitable, bubbly
Long – elegance, grace
Short – youth, naiveté

To Aru Majutsu no Index – 05

Last week we got the motivation for the two “bad” magicians.  If they don’t successfully erase Index’s memories every year, she’ll die.  Touma, naturally, can’t accept this, but can he manage to save the day yet again?

Sugoicon 2008 Report

Sugoicon 2008 is my 10th convention and my first anniversary on the convention circuit. A lot has changed for me in the past year, most notably the massive circle of friends I’ve generated. But enough about me, let’s dive into the convention report.

Kanon Minasesanchi CD Drama 3.1-3.3

OTL has released the first set of tracks for the third disc of the Kanon Minase san chi drama CD series. This disc is subtitled Akiko-san no hirugohan, meaning “Akiko’s Lunch.” The previous discs were breakfast and dinner, merely a theme to keep all the CDs together. The stories within don’t really follow a specific order other than release date.

Kanon fans should definitely keep up with these, and OTL does a fantastic job adapting an audio-only CD to something nice and visual. Using images from the game and adding in some of their own artwork (that’s missing from the game), they give a new definition to “kinetic novel,” and it’d be great if other sub groups could expand on the idea with other series’ drama CDs.
