Ikasucon 2008 report

I survived another convention over the past weekend. This time it was Ikasucon in Fort Wayne, IN. The convention originated in Cincinnati, but it decided to move to a new location last year. Continue past the break for my summary.

I arrived at 2:30 AM Saturday morning because I went to Video Games Live in Louisville on Friday. Yes, I am mildly insane like that. Anyway, we managed to get in with our room buddies and played Brawl until… 5 AM. Yep. Then the next day we ended up getting out of bed at 8 and kind of messing around in the hotel room. Faye had to report to the cosplay judging at 11:25, so we finally left the room and started wandering around.

That’s Celeste by the way. After that, we went into Ben’s cosplay props panel, to catch the Q&A session. He went into great detail on how he’d make Cloud’s sword from Advent Children, and also how to make Zero’s mask from Code Geass. Real interesting stuff, if you ever get a chance to hear him speak, you should. After that we headed off for lunch, then the game room, then Whose Line is it Anime. The show went quite well, and I’ll get some videos up as soon as possible.

After that I waited around until the Masquerade. I think it went really well. There were some pretty good skits up there on stage. Faye won the award for performance in the Novice division, she did an awesome job singing. After that, the two of us went to the hotel room, and were struck with an idea. I’m sure you can figure this cosplay out…

I’ll be honest with you, the rest of the convention was pretty much spent playing video games. Programming was really lacking for me, Tristan was there running a few things but unfortunately they fell on times that I couldn’t go. This new location just hasn’t paid off for them, I really want to see it succeed, but there just doesn’t seem to be much interest in a convention in northeastern Indiana. I had a good time hanging with my friends, and for me, that’s worth the trip, but I know most people aren’t willing to do that. Maybe a good advertising campaign would help.

The Brawl crew from left to right: Hitesh, Synth, Sammi, Ryzen, Faye, myself, and… someone. Yeah, you finally get to see me, congratulations.

Maybe I missed where you explained it: How can you afford all these cons? o.o

There isn’t much interest in a con without programming. xD

That why no one I know tries to go.
