Maybe it’s my fault for catching up on missed episodes whenever I’m in a bad mood. Usually anime helps cheer me up on off-feeling days, but Chii’s Sweet Home just gets me angrier. I love cats, though, but this series just dictates that I ought to adopt an older cat who’s been trained in most things at the shelter already … and not a kitten who has practically no brain at all. (Or if all cats act this way, then maybe I should rethink my future pet owning decisions.)

I’m a little disappointed in the family, too. They were nice and doting at first (although also initially forgetful to buy cat food despite trips to the pet store), but all three of them have really weak constitutions or a very slim sense of discipline. The parents seemed to have raised Youhei well enough; I don’t know why they can’t train a kitten better.

Ep29 involved the parents unable to go grocery shopping because Chii would want to tag along and go for a walk. All she had to do was cling to their ankles, and the adults just couldn’t bear to leave, even when others would be at home to babysit her. So they had to eat what looks like instant ramen for dinner as a result.

They seemed to figure it out by Ep33 with some proper distractions, but we’re all reminded of another conflict where the Yamada family’s apartment complex does not allow any pets. So properly hiding a cat from the neighbors and especially landlord should probably take a little more than their lax behavior around Chii. In this episode Chii finds the windowsill and essentially exposes her existence to anybody passing by. However her only reprimand is “You can’t do that, Chii.”
Keeping an indoor cat away from the window? Absurd. The outside is far too new and curiosity-filled for a cat to ignore. But even then, where’s the spray bottle when you need it? Cats don’t understand any human language, and I was facepalming all through Ep34 knowing that while the mother didn’t.

Ep37 has Chii selfishly stealing Youhei’s pancake when she already has her own food. She briefly makes up for it in Ep38 by being tolerable and not annoying Youhei too much.

Ep41 is the introduction of Bully Cat. Chii’s meal getting stolen in ep42 gives me a nice sense of justice after Chii has stolen a bunch of meals herself already. But I guess now that there seems to be a plot going on, I can get back into the story and feel for the cat a little bit.
Ep45 brought back another truth about cats, where they desire attention when they get none .. yet don’t want too much attention (or it stresses them out).
I know that this is supposed to be a cute anime; I know that Chii’s mischief is supposed to drive the humor. But I guess I really don’t like this type of comedy. ^^; Slapstick is one thing; absurd destruction is another. But this anime tries to be realistic or slice-of-life-like, and yet the family has to go through so much stress every day. However they manage to smile through it all.

I’m obviously too old for this; I’m overly analyzing it when it should be a simple series. ^^;
~Crisu (late entry is late, but this all still applies)
Eps 49-52 have made me chuckle again, though, with the Chi and big cat interaction. I guess they’re acquaintances now, and she gets to be all naive and silly all by herself around him. This is cute; we’re back to the kitten herself, and she’s not bothering innocent souls. :P Oh, and nice irony there if Chii’s looking for home and yet what seems to be her mom is just above her head.

HAHA, you’re lost.

You MUST be getting old and cranky if you’re finding this much to fault about the show (it’s not that much, but this is Chi’s Sweet Home!) :P Well, you’re halfway through the series already (another 50+ to go!), so you either suck it up or bid Chi and the Yamadas goodbye!
It just reaffirms why I’m a dog person. At least dogs feel bad half the time about screwing up. Some of these episodes are filler ones…if they did the episodes in the same timeline as the manga, it’d make more sense, IMHO.
Reminds of those shows which try to be funny as showing the kids spoiled as anything. I really don’t like those shows…
I’m glad the last three episodes have gone better for you though. ^_^
Personally, I don’t keep any pets save fish. And even then I suck at it.
Also, I never did watch Chii’s sweet home, so I gave you my take on pets instead. ^_^
