Oinari-sama Commits a Taboo!

I’m trying not to fall behind, and I’ve already failed, but I’ll at least get this review out on time. It starts off with Kuu asking Tohru whether he’d use her powers to meet his own ends.

As a predictable and innocent 12-year old, he insists on never doing that. Since he’s evidentially fine with his state of affairs, Kuu decides to act on her own accord to channel a forbidden spell. The last person to perform this spell lost an arm as punishment. Anyone else get a flashback to Full Metal Alchemist right about now?

She succeeds in casting and Ebisu, otherwise known as convenience store guy, shows up to stop her. Kuu is in no condition to fight and gets beaten down easily. Ebisu offers her the most bizarre choice I’ve seen so far in an anime, her hair, or the lives of the brothers. And just when you think this might be part of some even more bizarre and farther arcing plot, it’s not; it’s just a ploy to make more money. However, Kuu does get part of her wish, and the brothers receive a surprise visit on this night of the full moon…

At the very least, the story content is getting better. Tohru is directly forced to face the reality of growing up without his mother, as well as his eventual destiny as her son. At this stage of the game, though, it’s still on a very basic level. They comedy is getting more subdued, and it’s there just enough to let you know the anime isn’t going to take itself completely seriously. That said, this episode lacked the impact the last one had and let me down a little. It’s growing on me though.

Objectionable content: Magical violence, and this episode tells me that the directors are pretty well intent on not showing any blood.
