ANN reports that FUNimation has another mystery license announcement up their sleeve. It will be made official tomorrow, but for now we get a teaser silhouette of the lead character. Hmmmm… who could it be?

Well Anonymous did its research (if some of us fans couldn’t tell already from the easy hint) and found the girl to be Triela from Gunslinger Girl ~Il Teatrino~. The image on the front page of the GSG website has Triela in the same pose.

Woot! While I guess there’s still a non-zero probability that we could be wrong, it’s not very likely. FUNimation released the first season of Gunslinger Girl in 2005 (with rereleases in 2006 and 2007 in boxset and perhaps thinpack), so it would make sense for them to follow up with the second season.
This is great news for me. I enjoy the GSG franchise and am happy to see it getting support. Although I’m shamefully behind on covering the series. Triad just released ep7, but ep6 is still on my watching queue. …Although I guess the rest of the blogosphere has abandoned it citing terrible quality compared to the first season, but I would disagree. But more on those episodes when I get to them. And maybe a review of one of the games based on the first season, too, if I manage to borrow a JPS2 and have free time again.
If “tomorrow” is really May 14, according to FUNimation, then we’ll know very soon. Triela is my dearheart; you can’t keep her hidden forever! She’ll shotgun you in the gut.
