So finally catching up with episode 4+5. I have better coverage of 5, somehow.
Episode 4 was filler, pure fluffy filler. Watanuki ends up accidentally buying Himawari’s bad dream where she’s chased by a monster, and Domeki’s odd dream where he sees his grandfather. So Himawari’s dream comes to life and nearly kills him, but he’s saved by Domeki’s grandfather, who shoots an arrow. Watanuki shows the arrow to Yuko, who insists that it must be sold to a dream buying. It is done, for balloons containing dreams, three of which are given to Watanuki. He passes one on to a fox spirt, and takes the other two for himself. He uses one that very night and has a dream involving Domeki’s grandfather. That’s it. However, it was better then episode 5.
Episode 5, I’ll start by saying, is a triumph moment in that the art quality finally improved. It’s much better, and while not draw dropping, is pleasant to look at. It’s possible to enjoy the style of the long characters instead of them feeling like just another addition of the bad art. And so much animated food. I had screenshots, but they disappeared.
But man this episode was boring. We open with the trio(Watanuki, Himawari, and Domeki) eating lunch together, and talking about Watanuki’s dream involving Domeki’s grandfather. He’s dead, basically. Been that way for awhile. And then Himawari has a brief fashblack of her and an old women, presumably her grandmother. But it’s brief, and seems to have no value at this time.
An unimportant flashback of Yuko telling Watanuki that Himawari’s no good. And does he listen? No, but who would? Then Himawari starts talking about a program she watched involving a little girl who could exorciseghosts. Seems Himawari’s into this supernatural stuff(well, you’d hope). Watanuki is charmed, and tries to talk to her more when…*crunch*

As Watanuki is walking home from school, he sees a girl staring at a cherry blossom tree. As he tries to approach her, the girl’s mother comes running up, and start blathering about how not to touch her, she can’t lose her powers and is going on the show tomorrow. Seems we met this psychic Himawari talking about, and her lovely mother. The leave, but as she passes him, she something along the lines of, “You understand, don’t you.”
Okay, so the episodes gets more thrilling from there. Watanuki finds her in the rainstorm staring at the tree again. It turns in the tree there’s a spirit who’s to be exocised on t.v. tomorrow, but this spirit doesn’t want trouble, and will gladly leave if it’s a problems. So Watanuki and the girl walk to another tree and let the spirit make it’s home there. Exciting! And the girl recieves Watanuki’s umbrella to take home. I will be honest, at best their interactions are creepy. Watanuki comes off as a child kidnapper type. Maybe I’m just cynical.

I think as you don’t take candy from strangers, neither should you take umbrellas. We discover the girl’s name is Kohane.
Otherwise, Domeki who had not been able to see spirits, is now starting to see the ones that Watanuki sees out of the half eye Domeki gave him.
A rather disturbing scene of emotional neglect, as it’s evident the mother only cares about making money off her child. The episode ends with Kohane falling asleep holding the umbrella, with a blooming innocent crush on Watanuki, as only a elementry schooler can have…
So we’ve officially met Kohane, probably meant to be an important character later on.

I don’t know what to make of her, or what her purpose is suppose to be. She kinda feels as if CLAMP said, hey, we’ve got every other appeal in this series, why not throw in the loli. She’s your classic innocent little girl looking for affection. But quite, quite cute.
Overall, this episode was boring to watch, it probably is more exiting to read a syponis. Which is a problem. I hope that the next episode is much better, if this is how the series is going, it won’t be watchable.
