The third episode of xxxholic kei 3 was just so amazing, I had to blog about it in detail. Major spoilers guys, although I’m only saying the main points.

Watanuki has lost his eye at this point, when he discovered that the Zashiki-warashi (poltergeist, basically, in xxxholic she’s a sweet naaive spirit) has been captured trying to get it back. He’s transported there, thanks to Yuko, along with a powerful critter known as the Pipe Fox and finds himself fighting through this evil aura. To combat it, he grabs a shard of glass, and stabs himself. I was kinda bothered by this, but you do what you got to go.

And what does he find, but the sweetest bad guy ever holding the Zashiki-warashi hostage. Jorougumo is her name, spiderlike powers is her thing. As well as residing over spiders. And she is sweet. After all, her reason for not letting the Zashiki-Warashi have his eye back, is because she’s mean. Her exact words, not mine.

She revels that she indeed has Watanuki’s eye, and that such an item has the power to multiply her powers. To which Watanuki forgets the eye and asks for the girl back. She’s puzzled by this, asking why that is. He explains he’s only met the girl a couple times, but she’s a good girl. He runs toward the girl, but our spider-lady just wraps him easily in spider silk. He then begains offering up parts of his body in exchange, starting with his other eye, and then going from there…

To which she says, “I hate things like that.” She starts to chatise him for such an offer, saying

He starts to try to argue, but she cuts in, rejecting his offer. His head bowed in defeat, she reaches over, wanting to see his cute crying face. And he pulls that glass shard on her, cutting away the silk. Her response,

“I like this.”

A fantasic fight ensues. It’s short, but well-done. Really, Peter Parker wished he had powers like our baddie.

In the end, Watanuki does save the girl, but Jorougumo gets to eat Watanuki’s eye. Can’t win it all, after all. But Domeki gives half of his eye to Watanuki in the end, so all’s well that ends well.

The main thought I have is just how cool this episode was, it would be sooo much better with good animation. If only. >.< There’s also some serious conversation in here that are worth checking out, mainly what it means to sacrifice yourself for someone else. And some great cameos.

(Two things guys. One I really got into writing this, so I really hope you enjoy reading this. Second, I have some major prep to do for marcon, a con coming up a few weeks, and then finals so my posting from now to then will be to only follow xxxholic kei. Sorry, I just have to do real life. ^_^;)
