Zenryoku Usagi 01

Doing the Best Today Too!

Really, what would happen if a bunch of bunnies decided to form a construction company? Apparently, hilarious hijinks would ensue. That’s the name of the game for Zenryoku Usagi. Someone finally decided to sub it, so I’m going to watch it.

The show originally aired at 8:30 on Saturday mornings, so you know what it’s aimed at. Much of the humor is derived from the completely ridiculous situations. We start off with the head of the company leading the bunnies in their morning exercise routine. Is anyone else reminded a little of Mr. T?

The ‘story’ focuses on Minarai, a bunny that just can’t do anything right. When he’s given a jackhammer to burrow into the ground, he finds he can’t stop it and digs so deep that he discovers a fossil. Then he’s given the task of carving a rather simple object out of some lumber and manages to make an incredible work of art. Of course these activities are of no help on a construction site so he gets punished repeatedly.

The foreman of the site, called Master Sergeant by the workers, is a pretty interesting character. He gets a call about some kind of crime occurring, and he acts like a real military leader. This is instantly juxtaposed with an ‘emergency’ of a different kind, a call from his mama. It seems the guy has a soft spot after all.

A girl named Ojou gets into a fight with Sarge, she’s apparently the only match for him on the construction site. Then a massive fight breaks out that completely demolishes the building they were working on. Naturally, this means when the fight ends they’ll manage to rebuild it in a mere matter of seconds.

Alright, it’s a kid’s show. But it’s so wonderfully ridiculous that I can’t stop laughing at it. Give it a shot, you might find you like it too.

Episode Score: 8.5/10 Monstrous Kid Crabs

Objectionable content: Bastard and hell is used a few times in the subs, and there’s comic mischief. Not much of anything really. I’d be fine showing it to my younger cousins.

I find that our usual conventions of ‘objectionable’ content in terms of ‘kid’s shows’ don’t seem to apply to Japanese ‘kiddy’ anime. Zenryoku Usagi’s much tamer than this season’s Penguin no Mondai though :P

Yeah, I’ve looked at Penguin a little. XD

I know how much the standards in entertainment differ. All I have to do is look at the massive edits that happened to Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball Z. *shudder*

Hehe looks cute :). I hadn’t heard of this before but I think I’ll check it out now…thanks for the review of a kind of obscure show!
