Shameless Shipping 3 - Hitsugaya/Hinamori

Out of every Bleach couple invented by the fangirls, HitsuHina is one of the most twistedly logical pairings. Toshiro (or Toushirou) Hitsugaya is the seemingly stoic captain of the 10th Divison. He and Momo Hinamori have known each other since childhood, but ended up in different divisions. During the series, Momo ends up as a Lieutenant under the 5th Division Captain, Sousuke Aizen.

And as any fangirl knows, this ends up causing chaos for our pair. When Aizen fakes his death, he tricks Hinamori into thinking that Toshiro killed him. Since Hinamori was wounded while she tried to hurt him, Toshiro immediately turns on Aizen’s ally Gin Ichimaru and blames him for Hinamori’s spilled blood.

While it was kinda partially Gin’s fault, isn’t it a little twisted for a wise and stoic captain to outright blame Hinamori’s injury on him? It seems like that sort of illogical rage in a captain can only be caused by pure affection.

Anyway, when Hinamori later finds out that Aizen is alive, he immediately tries to kill her. Toshiro walks in as Aizen’s leaving and once again goes beserk at the thought of her hurt. He unleashes his bankai, the highest level of shinigami power, but still gets completely 0wn3d by Aizen.

Fortunately, Momo and Toshiro both survive (see? it’s fate~!) and Toshiro urges Hinamori to recover and take care of herself while he’s on a mission to defeat the Arrancar that Aizen leads.

The mildly stupid part, however, is that Hinamori still believes that Aizen didn’t really betray the Soul Society. She asks Toshiro to save Aizen instead of killing him, much to his shock.

And that leads me to my next point: Toshiro has two reasons to kill Aizen, and one to let him live. He can kill him because he betrayed them, or he can kill him because he’s still the object of Hinamori’s attention. Wouldn’t Toshiro be jealous of that attention if he cares about Hinamori that much?

The problem remains, however, that Hinamori wants Aizen to live and return home. Toshiro has a reason to let Aizen live, because then he could tell Hinamori he tried to save him, even if he ends up never returning. This dilemma will hopefully get a happy resolution, because if it ends with Hinamori resenting Toshiro or Toshiro getting killed, the pairing’s kinda doomed. ^_^;

But let’s switch back to the happy side of their relationship, shall we? One of the biggest points of fangirl obsession is the honorifics that Hinamori and Toshiro use toward each other. Hinamori called Toshiro ‘Shiro-chan’ when he was little, and uses that name once more when she attempts to kill him. Usually, though, Hinamori calls him ‘Hitsugaya-kun’ per an agreement they made when they were little: when Toshiro became a full-fledged shinigami, she had to address him more maturely.

Toshiro, however, insists that she call him ‘Hitsugaya-taichou’ (Captain Hitsugaya) which she always forgets to do. But he always calls her ‘Hinamori’ with no honorific, which is an indicator of a close relationship. He doesn’t call her by her first name, but that’s probably because of their professional lives within the Soul Society.

In the end, though, it’s not going to matter who called who what; it’s going to matter whether or not Hinamori can accept what Aizen has done and move on. Their future is going to depend on their inner strength and support of one another, regardless of what Aizen’s next move is.
