Hayate no Gotoku! 46

Isumi fans will love this episode. She gets a lot of exposure, and we learn a little bit more about Wataru and Saki as well. What happens when Wataru sees Isumi entering a different school? Is she after another boy? Or some other more secret mission?

ANN: New Slayers Series to be Produced

Lina Inverse! Slayers FTW!

Just when you thought Slayers was dead, Lina and the gang come back for more~! ;) ANN has an article stating that a fourth Slayers TV series has been announced. J. C. Staff will once again be producing it, and Takashi Watanabe is directing it again. Nothing has been announced regarding air dates, plot or characters, but the series will supposedly be 6 months (about 26 episodes) long.

ANN: ADV Bringing Back Some Missing Titles

After nearly a month of much drama over 34 titles being pulled from its website, ADV has now rescheduled release dates for several series, including Kanon, The Wallflower, Tokyo Majin, Welcome to the N.H.K, and Kurau: Phantom Memory. A few of the formerly removed releases were released today, including Kanon volume 2 and Welcome to the N.H.K volume 3. Other reinstated DVDs will ship on various dates in March.

Missing from the list of restorations, however, are Gurren-Lagann, Pani Poni Dash, Devil May Cry and many, many others. I’m glad to see that ADV has started to piece things back together after what’s heavily rumored to be a financial pimpslap, but they need to save Gurren-Lagann! Yeah, their trailer sucks, but I’ll forgive them for that if they produce a decent dub. I didn’t mean to hate on ADV so much in my last post. Please give us Gurren-Lagann back~ ;_; I know it’s probably not really their fault, but this still stinks.

true tears 08 – more development

In the absence of Clannad this past weekend, I’ll write a true tears entry to satisfy my need for emotional drama. But I had always been following this series just as strongly as the other. The realism is just much more prevalent and reflective of what could happen today. In ep8 we get some answers to the previous episode as well as new questions for the next…

Stage 6 videos to disappear on Thursday

[ Thanks to Anime Banzai for the tip. ]

Stage 6, the place for awesome video streaming and downloads and anime and “Wow, did I really just direct-download an entire 200MB episode?”, is going to shut down on February 28.

Uploading has been disabled, but downloading will continue until Thursday. Whether that means 12:00:00am Thursday morning or 11:59:59pm Thursday night .. I’m not sure.

But … what videos should we be salvaging? >_> I don’t browse often enough, just whenever friends and colleagues link me there.  Certain anime eps, sure, but I’m guessing the MAD videos and such are more rare, since they aren’t compressed like they would be on NicoNico or YouTube.

EDIT 1: Got some music videos by Hirano Aya, Mizuki Nana, and many other artists. Plus memorable MADs like all the Nursery Rhyme spoofs. Not too many good Hatsune Miku videos… What else? ^_^

ANN: sola Licensed by Bandai Visual

Anime News Network says that Bandai Visual has inadvertently announced the release of the first volume of the sola anime. The release is currently scheduled for June 10th 2008, but there have been no statements made regarding dubs or the number of episodes on each disc. The webpage is currently rather vague and has no DVD art or story summaries shown.

Bandai Visual, please just buzz off and leave the anime to companies who are RESPONSIBLE. While I’m glad sola got licensed by someone, like I’ve said in previous rants, it’s not worth it if you charge $30 for one, two or three sub-only episodes. I hope, though, that there’s limited edition DVDs with nice extras available. I believe there was an excellent LE release in Japan (I saw it blogged somewhere) with promo art and lots of other goodies. I’d pay $40 or more for that.

Bandai Visual may regain my support if they put a little more love into this project. sola certainly deserves it.

~CJ

EDIT: Three subbed-only episodes per disc, for a total of five volumes. The first one comes with an 8-page booklet and four character postcards.

Price? $50 for one volume. If you don’t believe me, ANN’s update is here. Didn’t the Japanese LEs contain much more goodies than that? Jerks…

SaiGAR 2008 – Group H, Round 3

Battle 72
Claire Stanfield (Baccano!) – 723 (87.4% of 827 votes)
Ryuuguu Rena (Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai) – 104

Well that’s interesting; I guess people really wanted to make sure Rena didn’t get into the quarterfinals… 87.4% might be the new winning-percentage record, too. Anyway, Round 3 is now over. The bracket has been updated to show the Quarterfinals, which will start in two days.

Oh wait.  He killed it.  See, I prewrote this entry just a half hour ago when the results were up and the Quarterfinals bracket was made, but CJ has since told me (and I see it now, too), that SaiGAR Guy has abandoned/suspended the tournament until further notice.  I guess all the proxy-voting drama got too big, and SaiGAR is now closed due to AIDS. Bleh.

On February 28 In the future at http://saigar08.michaeldodd.net/:

Battle 73
Jeremiah (Orange) Gottwald (Code Geass)
Hosaka (Minami-ke)

I wish I’d taken a screencapture of the rest of the bracket before the takedown. Oh well. …The voting graph link doesn’t work anymore, so I suppose all the files are gone from the server, too, for now. But I’ll leave it there just in case it comes back.

( View all the previous results here! )

Hayate no Gotoku! 45

Maria goes to the spa! And everyone and their friends happen to be there, too! Hilarity ensues as everyone tries to relax (or doesn’t) while in this luxury resort. We also learn not to call Maria old, as she is still very youthful despite all the work and stress she carries every day.

Gurren-Lagann English Dub Trailer

FIGHT THE POWAH

I’m slow to report on this atrocity, but ADV has reportedly released a trailer for their upcoming release of Gurren-Lagann. I say ‘reportedly’ because the trailer in question is, quite frankly, a load of crap. I truly hope for ADV’s sake that they’re NOT serious.

The trailer pretty much flat-out states that the series is about girls with guns (and the resulting fanservice) robots, explosions, and killing cute animals. The narration is a cheesy crappy ‘manly’ voice and (hopefully) not a demonstration of the dub.
