This series is starting to totally engross me. It’s mysterious without being overly ambitious, and any series that can pull that off is permanently on my watch list. The lack of serious character development, though is getting mildly annoying, and the battles start to grow meaningless as time wears on without a proper freaking explanation as to what’s going on. At least this episode had some visually interesting action and some curiosity-piquing moments.
In this episode, Shin and his friends have a near-miss with something related to the Persona things and shadow pulling. Megumi ends up in the hospital, and everyone else is taken in for questioning since someone ended up killed. Ryou tells Shin he has to find somewhere else to stay immediately, and his words imply that whatever happened is extremely unusual and should be kept secret.
Shin and Jun meet someone who Jun calls Eiko-neechan, though it’s not clear whether or not she’s actually their sister. Shin starts to call her Eiko-neechan in one scene, but stops short and calls her Eiko-san (or Miss Eiko.)
As Shin’s walking home from visiting Megumi in the hospital, though, some guys try to kidnap him (or something…) Ryou simultaneously gets in a fight with someone who wants him to join his ‘organization,’ and in the ensuing chaos, a ‘bad guy’ ends up dead and we see both the blue-haired girl from episode 2 and the Mysterious Red-Haired Girl (MRGH):
The episode ends with Shin logging onto Ryou’s computer to investigate the alleged disappearances at his school. (A semi-cliffhanger of sorts.)
The above summary implies that this was a great episode, but it was seriously lacking in character development. It would also be nice if hey would finally get around to explaining these Persona and Reverse terms that keep getting thrown about. Episode 4 is out, though, so I suppose there may be answers waiting to be discovered…
