There is NO Way D.Gray-man is Only 65 Episodes.

Or even the occasionally rumored 66.

Let me explain: I watched up through episode 62 the other day, and with two/three/maybe four episodes left, there is no way the staff can write a proper ending. Plus there’s so many events hinted at in the OP/ED that haven’t even happened yet, including Kanda’s fight with Skin and Lavi’s fight with Tyki (which we are all totally looking forward to because we all have our secret rabid fangirl sides that love smexy boys.)

For those of you who are out of the loop, at the end of episode 62, Lenalee’s dead or unconcious in the middle of the ocean after defeating an Akuma, Allen’s still without his Innocence at the Asia Branch, and Lavi and the other exorcists are still on the Akuma-ravaged boat halfway between China and Japan. (wow, that was a run-on sentence.)There’s many loose ends to be tied up, including the hunt for General Cross, The Noah Clan and their evilness, Kanda’s stupid mark on his chest, Lavi’s inner Bookman angst, and — oh, don’t forget, the Millenium Earl and his dastardly plot still need to be thwarted.

Yeah, that’s a TON to attempt to finish in 3/4 more episodes, even if they’re hour-long specials or something. However, most fans aren’t too worried, as they believe that D.Gray-man will just take a break after the ‘final episode’ and get a full second season at a later date.

But that would STILL suck, because A) we don’t want a break from D.Gray-man and B) the writers would still have to come up with a semi-ending-thing for ’season one.’ And at this point, the only semi-ending thing I can come up with is Lenalee being rescued and happily reunited with Allen in Asia, and someone stepping in to save Lavi and everyone stuck on the boat. That would be BEYOND lame, for anti-AllenxLenalee reasons that I will not go into.

In short, there are several things that the directors of D.Gray-man can do at this point:

1. Totally end the series at 65/66 episodes (which would involve Cross returning and saving Lavi’s boat, Allen recovering spontaneously, Riza Hawkeye sniping the Earl and the Noah getting blown up by atomic bombs)

2. Give the fans a temporary ending and continue the anime based on the manga later (as described above)

3. Give us a temporary ending and give the second season of the anime a totally different continuation than the manga (a la Fullmetal Alchemist)

4. Continue as (sort of) normal without a temporary fake ending (which would involve resuming the series less than a month after episode 65/66)

‘Nuff said? Lemme know what other theories are out there…

EDIT: The Wikipedia article for the D.Gray-man episodes now lists 7 more episodes set to air after epsiode 65; however, I need an official source for confirmation… *dashes off to do research*

EDIT 2: Episode 63 still doesn’t get us anywhere. Season 2 ahoy~! :D

Well they do keep adding more, first it was going to be 52 episodes, then 65, now we hear it may be even more. Perhaps they are gauging it’s popularity as there was a bit of a dip during the fillers.

@stardragon: There is no second eason of FMA. I was just using its ending as an eample.

@DES: That’s what they’re probably doing, but it makes me nervous… I mean, there are so many anime out there that got screwed up endings (Code Geass season 1 comes to mind) that I can’t help but wonder what they’re thinking. Ne? ^____^

dude theres up to ep 64 out right now and i HIGHLY Doubt they are gonna end the series at 65 they are most likely gonna take a few weeks/month break with the anime and write out the manga more then they are probley gonna start back on the anime for everyone to enjoy bc if they pull off the same shit they did with Tsubasa Chronicles or Inuyasha ppl are just gonna be pissed so

From the manga and the point the anime is at if they gave a ending now it would be allen gaining crown clown(his new power) and they would jump too some period after they beat the Earl.

I do not think that the people in charge would do that though.

They cover so mutch of the manga in the anime every ep they will just finish by the manga.

P.S. : Wikipedia is sometimes behind like it needs an update and might have lead too this rumor or some other site and nobody got the memo

@K-foe99: I’ve got this feeling I’m just being redundant by saying this because it seems all this was posted ages ago…^^; But I think the anime will go farther than the Crown Clown part. I think that if it’s going to end in the middle of the story, it would end when they all escape the Ark. But even after the Ark plot, there’s another immediate plot that comes in only a few chapters later, so I have a feeling the anime company will continue the anime until the whole manga is finished. Because like CJ-san saidthere’s just too many loopholes in the whole thing.

D.Gray-man is, most certainly, bound to run more than 70 episodes at least. I’ve been keeping track of the manga as well as the anime, and last time I checked (which was last week), the manga is at 143 fansubbed chapters. Manga chapter 72 coincides with anime episode 62. They can’t squeeze half the series into only a few more episodes, especially with the fillers necessary for comic relief–if not for sheer stupidity and animated boredom–as well as actually following the plot.

I have this feeling that D.Gray-man will continue until well over a hundred if not more. People rumored that the series was going to end at 52, but Season Two started at 53. We’ve just barely begun the second part, it can’t end anytime soon unless they’re going to pull an InuYasha and make us continue via manga-reading. But they’re not that mean… hopefully.

I’m excited for more. The anime hasn’t even gotten near Komui’s second coat and the scary HitlerMan! It has to continue, it’s only logical for such a series!

@CJ Black wing,i feel lavi very stupid when at the ship,if he faster use wood seal,so the people on the ship wont die XD!!!

    @Ultimate Komui: First of all, love the name. XD Second of all, what’s Komui’s second coat? Was that in the manga? I must have missed that part… ^_^;
And indeed, the fillers are nessecary for comic relief. Like episode 24 after that whole emo vampire arc (though that episode wasn’t total filler ^_^)

@Kianjia: Agreed. ^_^ Maybe he was too busy being emo to think straight. :P

    :D!!!OMG!!!NOW i think episode 65 is out!!!!go find it!

  13. January 10, 2008 at 10:04 am

WARNING, contain spoilers, Oh well. XD.

Oh well, wikipedia has listed place for 75 episodes so I hope there will be at least this amount of them. But with the action from manga, I just don’t think they can make it to next 10 episodes. Even now in 65th one is Allen still missing and they just landed in Edo.. though I didn’t like how they changed it to anime version…that fight within ep.65 was absolutely out T_T And actually, with that Hi Ban: Gouka Kaijin should lead to fight between Noahs (actually only Tyki then) with Lavi and the rest. And before that should Earl already sent his akuma army and so…waah….messed up. T_T

  14. January 10, 2008 at 3:45 pm

@Alwerien: Everything you said sounds right; I honestly don’t think they can end it in 10 episode either. They technically just entered a new plot line, so they can’t just drop us.

But… what was that about Lavi’s Hi Ban: Gouka Kaijin? That sounds familiar, but I don’t remember what happens with that…

  18. February 13, 2008 at 6:16 pm

^_^ Yeah, there’s no evidence of them stopping now. Perhaps they’ll take a break at episode 78 or something, but they can’t satisfactorily break it off even then.
